Volleyball Falls in GSC Opener at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in its first Gulf South Conference match of the season as the University of Alabama in Huntsville proved victorious in three sets on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The setback moves the MC to 2-6 on the season while the Chargers improve to 10-1.

The Choctaw entered the contest looking to extend their win streak in Spragins Hall as it won in five sets in the last meeting on the Chargers' home floor on Sept. 17, 2022. A win would be the third over the Blue and White on its floor and the fifth in the all-time series.

Lydia Paulette paced the Blue and Gold with 10 kills in the three sets. It is the 57th time in her career she's reached double-digit kills and the eighth this season. Rhaia Davey added seven to finished second on the team. Ali Wiggins dished out 11 assists to help direct the offense with eight coming from Caylin Pixley.

Samarin Kipple and Paulette collected 11 digs each on the defensive end as Julia Sumrall added two of the team's four blocks. Ellie Foco and Meg Paparella added a block each.

As the MC offense sputtered in the contest, The Blue and White strung along deep runs in all three sets to clinch the GSC opener for both squads. The Choctaw registered 29 kills in the three sets while they totaled a sub .100 attack clip. The Chargers saw the opposite on their offensive end as posted a .239 attack percentage and amassed 43 kills.

The Choctaw return to GSC play on Friday, Sept. 27 as it travels to Livingston, Ala., to face the University of West Alabama. First serve is at 6 p.m.
