CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi College faced another challenging outing on Saturday, falling to the North Greenville Trailblazers 29-7 in their Gulf South Conference opener. The lone touchdown for the Choctaws came from running back Marcus Williams, who scored on a 14-yard run.
Quarterback Eli Anderson completed 9 of 18 passes for 60 yards, while backup Pete Zamora saw some action, going 6 of 9 for 42 yards. Despite solid rushing performances, the Choctaws struggled to find their rhythm, finishing the game with a total of 102 passing yards and 168 rushing yards.
The first quarter saw North Greenville take an early lead with a 5-yard touchdown run from Dylan Ramirez, followed by a safety that extended their advantage to 9-0. Mississippi College finally got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Williams broke through for a 12-yard run, bringing the score to 9-7. However, North Greenville responded with a touchdown pass from Ramirez to Sam Washam just before halftime, leaving the Choctaws trailing 15-7.
The Trailblazers maintained control throughout the second half, with a stunning 71-yard touchdown pass to Tyshon Mansell and another rushing touchdown from Ramirez, sealing their victory.
With this defeat, Mississippi College falls to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in GSC play. They will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Murfreesboro, North Carolina, to face the Chowan Hawks at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
