CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team defeated Union University, 7-6, in a non-conference, midweek slugfest on Tuesday, Apr. 9 at Frierson Field at Dickins-Scoper Stadium. MC improved to 16-10 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 14-21. The victory avenged a one-run setback earlier this season in the Volunteer State to the Red and White.

Cole Drake and
JT Vance paced the Blue and Gold at the dish as they both collected a pair of hits in the game. Drake delivered the go-ahead knock in the bottom of the eighth to drive in his second and third RBI, which led the team. Vance also logged an RBI.

Luis Alcantara followed with a single up the middle that scored Drake, which proved the difference in the contest. It marked the only hit of the game for the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native, as he also drew two walks in the outing.

Lane Little (2-2) picked up the victory on the mound as he tossed the eighth frame and allowed one hit in the relief appearance.
Michael Sutton (2) logged his second save of the season and the second in as many appearances as he toed the rubber in the final frame. He allowed the final Union run and hit of the game, but added a strikeout. Five total pitchers saw action in the contest for the Choctaws.

MC trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth as Drake strolled to the plate with two outs in the inning and runners at the corners. The junior center fielder drove the 1-0 pitch into the gap in right center to deadlock the contest at 5-all as
DK Donaldson scored from third base.
Wesley Sides chugged around the bags and scored from first base to place the Blue and Gold in front. Â

Ryan Evans (2-2) took the loss on the mound as he tossed the eighth and was credited with all three MC runs on two hits along with two walks.

Drake placed the Blue and Gold on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run that tied the game. The team teams exchanged blows in the third and remained deadlocked at 2-all until MC took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning as Vance and
Korey Cooper each recorded an RBI.

UU rallied and forced the third stalemate of the game in the top half of the sixth with a pair of runs and took its final lead in the seventh as Dyllon Barrett used a bunt single to score Colby Davis. The Bulldogs notched their final run of the game in the top of the ninth as Barrett compiled his second RBI of the game and fourth hit with a solo home run to left center.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Apr. 12 as it travels to the Bluff City for a three-game, Gulf South Conference, weekend series against Christian Brothers University. First pitch of the series lidlifter is 2 p.m.
