MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College baseball team were outlasted in its Gulf South Conference series opener at Christian Brothers University on Friday, Apr. 12 as the Bucs (14-25, 6-19 GSC) rallied from seven down to win in extra innings. The setback moved MC to 16-20 and 7-15 in league play.

A trio of Choctaws collected multiple hits on the day, led by
Korey Cooper with three hits and as many RBI.
JT Vance and
Caleb Reese joined Cooper with multi-hit performances as each tallied a pair of hits in the opener.
Wesley Sides matched Cooper with three RBI while Reese added a pair of RBI.
After a see-saw affair through the first six innings, which culminated with the Choctaw holding a one-run advantage, MC touched up the Red and Black for six runs in the top of the eighth. The squad collected two of its four home runs in the game in frame.

Cooper connected on his second home run of the day to start the scoring in the inning and expand the margin to two runs. After two more runs crossed the dish later in the frame on a sacrifice fly and Bucs' error, Sides powered the ball out of the park and collected his three RBI on his lone hit of the day.

CBU wouldn't go quietly into the twilight sky on its home field as it tied the contest in the ninth inning at 11-all. The Red and Black sent 11 batters to plate in the inning and tallied seven runs to force the stalemate after regulation. After retiring their visitors from the Magnolia State in order in the top of the 10th, the Bucs stood with the bases loaded and one down in the home half of the frame. Cory Steinhauer delivered an RBI single to right field that scored Sam Walker for the game-winning run.
Jeff Liddell (1-2) was received the decision on the mound as he allowed the deciding run in the bottom of the 10th alongside two hits and a pair walks. He was one of five pitchers to see action on the bump for the Blue and Gold.

Dylan Anders (2-1) picked up the victory with a spotless 1.2 frames in relief as he registered one strikeout.

Knotted at 2-all through five frames, Reese launched a two-run, home-run to break the deadlock. Cooper added his first home run of the day in the following inning to expand the lead to 5-2. CBU answered with a two-run home of its own in the bottom of the sixth to clip the deficit to a run.

Mississippi College and Christian Brothers close out the series on Saturday, Apr. 13 with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
