Men's and Women's Tennis Heading to GSC Championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ---- Mississippi College tennis is on full display in Montgomery, Ala. as both the men and women have punched their ticket to Monday's GSC Championship match.

On the men's side, in a thrilling tennis clash between MC and West Florida, #26 Mississippi College emerged victorious over #4 West Florida with a score of 4-2.

In singles competition, nationally #3 ranked player, Alex Blanchard defeating West Florida's #22 Sebastian Rondon in a hard-fought battle, with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

West Florida's Albin Ekenros secured a victory for his team in a fiercely contested match against Mississippi College's Alvaro Saint Martin, with a score of 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-0. However, Mississippi College swiftly responded with wins from Joe Jarvis, Sergio Ramirez Ocana, and Antoine Nivault in their respective singles matches.

In doubles competition, MC started strong with victories from the duo of Alex Blanchard and Rafael Sabio, defeating West Florida's Albin Ekenros and Bernardo Costa with a score of 6-3. However, West Florida fought back, securing wins in the other two doubles matches.

MC went on to take the win, 4-2, improving to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in the Gulf South Conference. They advance to Monday's championship round where they will take on Valdosta State at 10 a.m. at Lagoon Park.  

In a riveting women's tennis matchup between #28 Mississippi College and #7 West Alabama, MC secured a thrilling 4-3 victory.

The doubles matches set the tone for the competition, with West Alabama claiming the first point with victories in the #1 and #2 doubles matches. However, Mississippi College fought back, securing a crucial win in the #3 doubles match.

As the singles matches commenced, the tension only heightened. West Alabama's Khim Iglupas displayed dominant play, securing a victory over Mississippi College's Elyangelica Alas in the #1 singles match.

However, Mississippi College responded, with Emma Roberts, Fernanda Cota, Gabrielle Geolier, Ana Rodriguez, and Hardija Vidnere all securing victories in their respective singles matches.

Emma Roberts from Mississippi College delivered a commanding performance in the #2 singles match, defeating West Alabama's Shaira Rivera with a score of 6-0, 6-3. Fernanda Cota showcased her resilience in a hard-fought battle in the #3 singles match, ultimately prevailing over Heden Ly from West Alabama with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.

Gabrielle Geolier's won at #4 singles, as she battled to a victory over Valentina Mutilba from West Alabama, with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Ana Rodriguez and Hardija Vidnere rounded out Mississippi College's singles victories with impressive performances in the #5 and #6 singles matches, respectively.

Mississippi College improved to 15-8 overall on the season and will take on AUM on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala.
