Tennis Comes Up Short in GSC Championships

MONTGOMERY,  Ala. --- In a doubleheader of intense tennis action on Monday, both the men's and women's tennis teams found themselves battling formidable opponents in the Gulf South Conference Championship matches at Montgomery, Ala.'s Lagoon Park. 

The #28 Lady Choctaws squared off against #11 Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) in a hard-fought GSC Championship match. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Choctaws were unable to overcome the formidable AUM squad, ultimately falling with a score of 4-3.
in two matches, taking an early 1-0 lead.

The #1 doubles pair of Elyangelica Alas and Fernanda Cota showed resilience but were defeated by AUM's Estefania Garcia and Ane Ibarra with a score of 3-6. However, the #2 doubles pair of Ana Julissa De Mata Rodríguez and Gabrielle Geolier secured a win for Mississippi College with a score of 6-2.

In singles play, Mississippi College battled hard, with Emma Roberts delivering a strong performance and securing a victory for the Lady Choctaws at #2 singles. De Mata Rodríguez took a win at #5 singles, 6-4, 6-0, with Ana Hudson winning by way of retirement at #6 singles. Despite their efforts, AUM went on to clinch the final point in a close match to clinch the GSC Championship title.

On the men's side, #26 Mississippi College faced off against #3 Valdosta State in another intense GSC Championship showdown. 

In the doubles matches, Mississippi College fought hard, but Valdosta State emerged victorious in all three matches to take a 1-0 lead. 

In singles competition, it was Valdosta State that took the singles matches, securing them the GSC Championship title.

Despite the tough losses in the GSC Championship matches, both the men's and women's teams from Mississippi College now await their NCAA fate. With strong records and competitive performances throughout the season, both teams are hopeful for an at-large bid to continue their season in the NCAA tournament.
