BIRMINGHAM, Ala.---- The Gulf South Conference announced its men's tennis weekly award winners for the 2024 season. This week's awards were for meets between February 26-March 3.
Joe Jarvis was named the GSC Player of the Week after he had a solid week for Mississippi College winning both his singles and doubles matches.
In solo action, featuring fourth in the lineup, he began the week with by collecting a when over West Florida's Diego Duran (6-3, 1-0, Ret.) as the Choctaws upset the No. 5 Argonauts 5-2.
Jarvis then downed Ouachita Baptist's Aaron Osmond (6-1, 6-4). On court three in doubles play, teamed with Alvaro Saint Martin, he registered a pair 6-3 wins over UWF's Joaquin Estevez/Mateo Martinez and OBU's Osmond/Elias Lagger.
Freshman of the Week: Jerome Iaconi, Fr., Valdosta State
In Valdosta State's lone match of the week, Iaconi went 1-0 in singles and 0-1 in doubles as the Blazers rattled off a 7-0 victory over No. 5 Columbus State. Appearing fifth in the singles lineup, the rookie tallied his second win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over CSU's Bendek Szombathelyi. Alongside teammate, Takeshi Taco, Iaconi played at No. 2 doubles, falling 6-3 to CSU tandem Thomas Cardona / Daniel Hammond.
