Choctaws Get Two Wins on the Court Versus Harding in Home Opener

CLINTON, Miss. --- In an electrifying home opener, the #24 Lady Choctaws dominated the doubles matches against Harding University to kick off MC's home slate. In the #1 doubles, Elyangelica Alas and Fernanda Cota secured a commanding 6-4 victory over Harding's Roux and Britt. The momentum continued in the #2 doubles as Gabrielle Geolier and Ana Rodriguez delivered a stellar performance, outmatching their opponents with a decisive 6-1 win over Dodd and Plunkett. Rounding out the doubles matches, Emma Roberts and Maria Rodriguez clinched the victory with a solid 6-4 win in the #3 doubles over Harding's Stafford and Zarate Valdez.

Transitioning to the singles matches, the Lady Choctaws maintained their dominance on the court, with several standout performances sealing the victory. In a thrilling showdown in the #1 singles, Elyangelica Alas bounced back from an early deficit to secure a hard-fought victory with scores of 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 over Harding's Roux. Emma Roberts continued the winning streak for Mississippi College in the #2 singles, taking the win with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over Zarate Valdez. Meanwhile, Fernanda Cota delivered a vitctory with scores of 6-2, 6-1 at #3 singles.

In the men's matches, Mississippi College's Alex Blanchard and Rafael Sabio set the tone early with a commanding victory in the #1 doubles, defeating Harding's de Ruiter and Mikkelsen with a solid 6-1 performance. Walker Ellis and Alvaro Saint Martin continued the momentum for the Choctaws in the #2 doubles, with a thrilling 7-5 victory over Harding's Ortiz and Zlatar.

In singles play, Alex Blanchard delivered a standout performance in the #1 singles, securing the victory with scores of 6-0, 6-2 over Harding's Zlatar. Rafael Sabio followed suit in the #2 singles, with a commanding 6-3, 6-4 win over de Ruiter. Alvaro Saint Martin further solidified Mississippi College's win with a gritty performance in the #3 singles, overcoming Mikkelsen with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The men move to 2-0 on the season while #24 Lady Choctaws improve to 1-1. They return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. versus UT Tyler at home at the MC Tennis Complex.
