Choctaws Topple UAH

MC win streak extended to season-best three games

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball avenged an earlier setback this season as it downed the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Gulf South Conference action, 64-54, in front of 300-plus inside of A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The win is the third in a row for MC, which improved to 10-12 on the season and 9-10 in conference play.

A trio of Choctaws scored in double figures as paced Amelia Bell led the way with 19 points while Karly Ivy added 17. It marks the 24th career game in double figures for Bell and the 18th for Ivy, who leads the team with 12 double-digit scoring efforts this season.

Keller Bigham rounded out the group with 13 points and tied a season-high with a team-high seven rebounds. The point total was two off a career-high for the Warren, Ark., sophomore.

MC shot 47.2 percent from the floor in the game and totaled 34 rebounds, which bested the Chargers total boards by four. It is the 15th time this season the Blue and Gold have outrebounded its opponent. The team also outscored UAH as it converted 13 turnovers into 21 points and managed to limit the opposition to four points off turnovers for the game.

Haelim Adle and Andie Flatgard paced the visitors from the Yellowhammer State with 11 points each.  Adle also led the team in rebounds with six. UAH (8-14, 7-12 GSC) shot 36.2 percent from the floor.

The Choctaws held an 18-16 advantage following the opening 10 minutes of action and maintained the narrow lead at the intermission as Kyiah Julian knocked down a jumper as time expired in the second. MC flexed its muscle in the second half as it outscored the Blue and White 13-5 in the period. Ivy and Bell combined for 11 of the teams' 13 points in the quarter.

It also places the team inside the top eight in the conference standings with five games to remaining. The top eight advance to the GSC Tournament, March 5, 9-10.
