Choctaws Fall to Union in GSC Action

JACKSON, Tenn. – Mississippi College's men's basketball team dropped an 83-73 decision to Union University on Saturday evening in Gulf South Conference action at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.

The Choctaws (5-3, 1-1 GSC) fell behind early, as Union's offense, which shot 47% from the floor and built a 47-32 lead by halftime. Mississippi College, led by Tyshun Briscoe's 27 points, mounted a second-half rally but ultimately fell short against the Bulldogs (6-2, 2-0 GSC).

Briscoe had a standout performance for the Choctaws, making 10 of 15 shots from the field, including three three-pointers. Rashad Bolden contributed 16 points as the Choctaws finished the game with a 40.9% field goal percentage and just 33.3% from beyond the arc.

The Choctaws outscored Union 41-36 in the second half, but could not overcome the Bulldogs' strong first-half performance. Union's defense limited MC to just eight second-chance points, and the Choctaws were unable to generate enough fast-break opportunities to shift the momentum.

Despite a solid effort inside, where Mississippi College scored 28 points in the paint, Union's efficiency and depth ultimately proved too much. The Bulldogs' ability to control the game early and limit MC's shooting opportunities kept the Choctaws from closing the gap.

Mississippi College will return home for its next contest, hosting the University of Montevallo on Saturday, December 14, at 4 p.m. CT. The game will be held at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Mississippi.

Game Notes:

  • Mississippi College shot 40.9% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.
  • Union shot 47% overall and 22.2% from three-point land.
  • The Choctaws were out-rebounded 28-20 and committed 10 turnovers to Union's 5.
  • The game had 12 points off turnovers for MC and 11 fast-break points.
