Montevallo Tops Mississippi College In GSC Action

CLINTON, Miss. — The Mississippi College men's basketball team fell to Montevallo 70-58 on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, in a Gulf South Conference matchup at the A.E. Wood Coliseum. Despite a strong individual performance from Rashad Bolden, who posted 30 points, the Choctaws were unable to overcome Montevallo.

Montevallo (8-2, 4-0 Gulf South) controlled the second half, outscoring Mississippi College (5-4, 1-2 GSC) by 12 points after leading by just three at halftime. The Falcons shot 60% from the field in the second half, including a perfect 1-for-1 from beyond the arc, and converted 15 of their 21 free-throw attempts in the period.

Mississippi College kept the game close in the first half, trailing 30-27 at the break, but struggled to find consistency on offense in the second half. Bolden led the charge for the Choctaws, shooting 10-of-21 from the field and 4-of-10 from three-point range. Odis Carter added 16 points off the bench, hitting 4-of-4 from three-point range.

However, Montevallo's balanced scoring and strong rebounding efforts proved too much for Mississippi College to overcome. Derek Moore led the Falcons with 13 points and 4 rebounds, while Brandon Fussell contributed 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. The Falcons finished the game with 12 second-chance points and dominated the paint with 38 points in the lane.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for Mississippi College. Tyree Bracey had a solid game with 4 rebounds and 2 assists, and Amari George contributed 8 points in 21 minutes of play. However, the Choctaws could not find the offensive rhythm necessary to challenge Montevallo down the stretch.
