Women's Hoops Falls in Double OT

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell in double overtime to Lane College on Saturday, Nov. 9, 63-60. Both squads even their record 1-1 on the season.
 
Amelia Bell and Tytiana Buckley led the way for the Blue and Gold as each posted double-doubles in the contest. Bell scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while Buckley tallied 11 points and grabbed a team-best 17 boards. Tiara Abron led the squad with 16 points while Keller Bigham tallied 10 rebounds.
 
MC shot 35.0 percent from the field and connected on 16-for-25 from the free-throw line for 64.0 percent. The team tallied 60 rebounds.
 
A tussle throughout the opening four quarters, the Dragons scored with under two minutes to go, sending the contest into its first overtime period. The two teams exchanged leads and ties through the first extra five minutes and stood deadlocked at 55-all following 45 minutes of action.
 
In the second OT, Lane grabbed a 59-55 advantage, but the Choctaw rallied to tie the contest at 59-all behind a jumper from Bell and a fast break layup from Abron with 2:04 left to play. Abron hit one of two free throws to give MC a one-point lead with 41 ticks left. Taylor Lattimore answered with a 3-pointer with 28 seconds and Chantoryia Rivers added one free throw to give the Red and Blue the 3-point victory.
 
Lane held the advantage in points off turnovers, 26-19, and received 38 points from its bench as it outscored MC by 29 in the category.
 
Breonna Carey led the Dragons with 15 points and 10 rebounds. LC shot 24.4 percent from the floor, totaled a 73.1 clip from the charity stripe and grabbed 52 rebounds.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 14 as it hosts Belhaven University. Tip at 5:30 p.m.
