Choctaw Upend Belhaven

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College women's basketball scored a season-high as it upended Belhaven University, 95-47, on Thursday, Nov. 14. MC improved to 2-1 on the season.

The previous season-high was 83 points in the season opener against LeMoyne-Owen College.

The point total is the third largest in the series for the Blue and Gold and the most in 48 seasons. The most in the series was 101 on Jan. 26, 1976 with the program scoring 97 on Jan. 20, 1976 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

A quartet of Choctaw scored in double figures led by Kary Ivy's season-high 19 points. Nia Coleman added a career-high 16 points. Coleman's previous career best was 12 points on Feb. 3, 2024 against Keller Bigham and Alexis Rowe chimed in season-high point totals as Bigham tallied 12 points and 11 coming from Alexis Rowe, who also led the team with seven rebounds.

MC shot 47.1 percent from the field, including a 42.9 clip from behind the arc. The Blue and Gold also connected 17-of-20 from the free-throw line for 85.0 percent. The unit also grabbed 46 rebounds.

The Choctaw jumped on their in-state foes early as they outscored the Green and Gold 25-10 in the opening quarter and never let up. MC nearly doubled up the Blazers at the end of the first half, 50-26. MC's largest lead came with 38 seconds left to play as freshman Ava Craddock added to the point total with two of her seven points on a put back jumper in the paint.

Former Choctaw Kiersten Hudson scored a career-high 13 points to lead the Blazers. BU shot 33.3 percent from the field and posted a 62.5 clip from the charity stripe. The Green and Gold totaled 21 rebounds in the effort.

The victory gave the Choctaw their fifth straight in the series.
