CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with an 83-60 victory in the opening game of the Gulf South Conference-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover agianst LeMoyne-Owen College.

Four Choctaws scored in double figures led by preseason All-GSC selection,
Karly Ivy, with 17 points. The Denton, Texas, native also grabbed five rebounds – third most on the team – and added two swipes. The point-total is seven off tying her career-high.

Amelia Bell finished second on the team in scoring with 14 points while newcomers
Tiara Abron poured in 12 and
Tytiana Buckley added 10 points.
Keller Bigham paced the squad with seven rebounds while Buckley pulled down six.

MC shot 45.6 percent from the floor, including a 40.0 clip from behind the arc. It was 23-for-30 for 76.7 percent from the free-throw line. The squad pulled down 38 rebounds in the contest.

The Magicians opened with the first two points of the contest and held the advantage for 45 seconds in the game as the Blue and Gold gained its first lead at the 7:34 mark of the opening quarter, on a jumper by Buckley, and never looked back. The Choctaw held a six-point lead at the end of the first stanza. MC expanded its margin in the second quarter as it outscored the Purple and Gold by five points and held a 48-37 lead at the intermission.

The Choctaw reached their largest lead of the game with 2:23 left to play in the game as Bigham scored on a fast break layup, following a turnover. MC scored 20 of its points off of LOC turnovers and 19 points on fast breaks.

Antieya Brown led the Magicians with 11 points while Janara Williams paced the team with eight rebounds. LOC shot 40.0 percent from the field and totaled 33 rebounds.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 9 as it hosts Lane College in the second day of the GSC-SIAC Crossover. Tip-off is 10 a.m.
