Volleyball Bested by West Florida

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in three sets to the University of West Florida on Friday, Nov. 9. The Choctaw move to 12-13 on the season and 10-7 in Gulf South Conference play.
 
The offense struggled for the Blue and Gold as the squad posted a sub .100 attack percentage for the night. Ellie Foco led the team with a .429 swing clip as she totaled six kills. Mary Grace Foster added a .235 percentage as she tied Foco in the kill column.
 
Lydia Paulette paced the team with nine kills followed by Rhaia Davey with seven. Ali Wiggins and Caylin Pixley combined for 25 of the 28 assists. Wiggins led the team with 13.
 
On the defensive end, Samarin Kipple collected a team-best 17 digs while Davey, Foco and Julia Sumrall each had two blocks in the outing.
 
In all three frames, the Argonauts used long runs to sweep away the victory. In the opener, they jumped out to a 12-5 advantage. MC chipped away and cut the deficit to within two points, but the league's top team and host of the conference tournament, responded with 7-0 run to grab a 21-12 lead and eventually close the frame out at 25-20.
 
In the second set, the Choctaw sprung to life as they held a 7-4 lead. However, the Blue and Green answered again, this time with an 8-3 run to take a 12-10 advantage. The spurt led the way to a 25-19 victory, as it never relinquished the margin the remainder of the way. The visitors from the Sunshine State rode the momentum into the final frame as it took a 17-6 advantage and finished the match at 25-13.
 
Mississippi College, who has punched its ticket to the GSC Tournament, returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 9 as it hosts Valdosta State University in a pivotal contest towards tournament seeding. First serve is at 2 p.m. with Senior Day festivities prior to the match.
