Volleyball Begins Postseason Run in Pensacola on Friday

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team starts its postseason run as it takes on Trevecca Nazarene University on Friday, Nov. 22 in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Second Round.

The tournament is the fifth consecutive for the program and its 15th during its Division II tenure, which dates back to the 2019 campaign.

MC won its last three contests and claimed the No. 3 seed in the tournament and moved past a first-round match on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Mississippi College enters the tournament with a 4-6 record against the field. MC split the season with four of the teams remaining in the tournament and was swept by top seed West Florida. The Choctaw meet Trevecca Nazarene for the fifth time in school history and holds a 3-1 mark all time against the Trojans. The lone setback came in the most recent meeting between the two schools as the TNU won in three sets.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the conference office announced its All-GSC squad. Lydia Paulette represented the Blue and Gold on the list as she earned first team all-conference accolades – the third of her four-year career in Clinton.

Paulette led the GSC in four offensive categories this season and ranked in the top 10 in six. She is the only player in the conference to achieve 400-plus kills this season and her points average is a full point better than her nearest competitor. She totaled 20-or-more kills five times this season, including a program record 25 on Oct. 26, 2024. She put together the top point performance this season as she totaled 28.5 in a victory over the University of Montevallo on Oct. 1.

Along with leading the conference in kills and points, the Tuscaloosa, Ala., native also ranked in the top five in service aces per set and is sixth in total aces.

During the season, Paulette set the school record in total kills and total points. She currently holds the record at 1,345 kills and 1,571 points. She added three GSC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season and nine during her career, which is second most in conference history.

First serve on Friday is 6:30 p.m. at the University of West Florida Field House. Tickets are on sale through the UWF Ticket Office. Fans can follow the action GoChoctaws.com/coverage.
