Choctaw Sweep Montevallo

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team secured its second regular-season sweep with a three-set victory over the University of Montevallo. MC improved to 12-10 on the campaign and 10-5 in Gulf South Conference action.

The decision marked the first sweep of the Falcons in program history and the third win in series history.

Lydia Paulette paced the Blue and Gold with 13 kills and tied for tops on the team in digs with 13 alongside Samarin Kipple. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native posted a .520 attack percentage, which was also best on the team.

Sophomore's Rhaia Davey and Ellie Foco joined the senior with a plus-.400 clip. Foco finished second on the team with six kills, using a .452 swing percentage, while Davey added five winners with a .400 percentage.

Caylin Pixley and Ali Wiggins combined for 26 of the Choctaw assists in the match. Pixley led with 14 while Wiggins supplied 12. Kipple led the team with three service aces. Julia Sumrall provided a threat at the net with three total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks.

Following a come-from-behind, 25-22, victory in the opening set, in which the Blue and Gold closed the frame with a 6-1 run, the squad from the Magnolia State put the Falcons away in the following two sets and secured their seventh GSC sweep on the campaign. MC claimed the second set 25-16 before claiming a 25-12 victory in the third.

The Choctaw opened the set on a 9-2 run and quickly reached a double-digit lead following a Paulette kill. The team maintained the double-figure deficit the remainder of the set, reaching its largest lead at 20-7 on a Kipple ace.

Mississippi College hits the road for a pair of GSC contests in the Volunteer State for the weekend. The road trip starts in Cleveland, Tenn., as the Choctaw take on Lee University. First serve at 5 p.m.
