CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team secured its fourth Gulf South Conference sweep of the season as it topped Christian Brothers University on Friday, Oct. 18 inside A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC improved to 8-9 on the season and 6-3 in conference play.
Â
The victory marked the seventh straight in the series for the Blue and Gold and the 11th all-time. It is the fourth sweep during the run, the third in A.E. Wood, and the second back-to-back. MC claimed last season's meeting in Clinton in straights.
Â
Lydia Paulette paced the squad with 12 kills as
Ali Wiggins and
Caylin Pixley tied for tops on the team with 13 assists apiece.
Samarin Kipple registered a career-high three service aces. Her previous high was two, which came against Trevecca Nazarene University.
Â
Rhaia Davey compiled seven total blocks – one shy of her career best. The effort matched her career-high in block assists, which came at West Alabama on Sept. 27.
Â
In both the first and third frames, the Choctaw opened with big runs. MC recorded eight of the first nine points and rode the early run to a seven-point victory. In the third, the Blue and Gold jumped out to an 11-4 advantage, but found itself trailing late in the frame. The Choctaw claimed three of the last four points as it capitalized on two CBU miscues, but Paulette nailed the door shut with a kill to garner a 27-25 victory.
Â
In the second set, MC held a 15-11 lead, however, the Lady Buccaneers cut into the deficit late at 21-18. The home standing Choctaw answered with four of the next six points, including kills from
Mary Grace Foster,
Julia Sumrall and Paulette during the final push of the frame.
