JACKSON, Tenn. --- Mississippi College baseball team is edged, 6-5, as Union University rallies late in the opening game of the three-game, Gulf South Conference series on Friday, March 7. The Bulldogs (11-21, 6-13 GSC) score five unanswered to claim the contest.
 
Blake Barrett placed an RBI, bases loaded-single into right center to hand UU the walk-off victory. It was one of his team-best three hits on the night and his second RBI.
 
The Choctaw (11-24, 6-13 GSC) recorded five hits as 
Caleb Reese and 
Wesley Sides each provided multiple-RBI efforts in the outing.
 
MC jumped out early in the contest as it held a 5-1 advantage through the first four frames. Reese got the scoring started with a solo home run in the first inning and after UU tied the contest at 1-all in the bottom of the frame, the Bossier City, La., native plated the second run for the Blue and Gold with a sacrifice fly to center in the third.
 
Reese inched closer to second on the program's home run list as he claimed his 31st career dinger. It also marked the 44th of the season for the Blue and Gold and moved the squad to seventh on the single-season list as it matched the mark set by the 2010 squad and equaled by the 2021 edition. It matches the most hit by the program since its return to Division II.
 
Sides expanded the lead in the following inning as he doubled to left center to score 
Alex McWhorter and 
Cole Drake. He later on an error to push the margin to four runs. The Red and White pulled within a run in the bottom of the fifth and tied the contest at 5-all in the top of the sixth as Alec Hardy hit a solo home run to left field.  
 
Ryan Evans (3-3) picked up the win on the mound as he held the Choctaw hitless and scoreless in the final inning. He walked one and struck out one. Union starter Sam Poindexter struck out five in eight innings as he allowed five runs – three earned – on five hits along with four walks.
 
Ervin Simmons (0-3) notched the loss as he allowed a run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout in the final inning. 
Caleb Jacobs struck out five in the start as he allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings. 
Lane Little tossed two innings in relief with a run on four hits.
 
Mississippi College and Union resume the series on Saturday, March 8. First pitch is at Noon central.
