MONTICELLO, Ark. --- The Mississippi College baseball team fell 10-3 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Tuesday, Apr. 25 in the final midweek contest of the 2023 campaign. The Boll Weevils rode a strong seventh inning to capture the victory and improve to 29-18 on the season.

The Choctaw (15-31) totaled seven hits in the contest led by
Wesley Sides with a multiple-hit effort. The Southaven, Miss., native went 2-for-4 at the dish. The lone extra-base knock came off the bat of
JT Vance, who doubled in the first inning.
Alex McWhorter and
Beau Bates each provided an RBI.

MC jumped out to an early lead through the first four innings. McWhorter drove in the first run of the contest in the top of the third as he pushed Bates across the dish on a groundout. Bates helped extend the lead in the top of the fourth as he logged an infield single to score
Jordan Rollins while an error by the UAM second baseman allowed Sides to score on the play.

The Green and White cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth as it posted a pair of runs and took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the seventh as he tallied eight runs in the frame. A two-run, single from Chase Cripps gave the Weevils the lead in the contest and back-to-back home runs later in the at-bat expanded the deficit. Alex Austin landed a grand slam to widen the margin to 9-3 and a solo home run off the bat of Walker Brown capped the scoring in the contest.

The Choctaw sent nine hurlers to the bump in the contest as
Kade Linn (2-2) suffered the setback as he allowed six runs on three hits in a third of an inning in relief. The staff allowed just one hit through the first five innings and only three baserunners to reach during the span.

Austin paced UAM at the plate as he went 2-for-2 with a walk and drove in six runs during the contest. Cade Cancilla added a multi-hit performance, as he was also 2-for-2 at the plate. The Boll Weevils combined for nine hits in the outing.

Charles Peacock (1-2) registered the win on the hill as he tossed two innings, struck out five and allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings of relief. Â

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Apr. 28 as it hosts in-state and Gulf South Conference foe, Delta State University in the first of a three-game series. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
