CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a Gulf South Conference series opener as it fell 12-6 to Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday, March 31. MC moves to 10-21 on the season and 6-10 in league play while the Warhawks improve to 14-19 and 8-11 in the conference.

Luis Alcantara led the way at the dish as they each recorded a pair of hits as the Choctaw gathered nine hits in the contest. The duo also logged an RBI.

Caleb Jacobs (2-1) suffered his first setback of the season. He allowed seven runs on nine hits as he fanned one and walked a pair in four innings.

After AUM struck the first blow on a two-run home run in the top of the first, the Blue and Gold responded with a pair of runs of its own in the home half of the frame to knot the contest at 2-all. Vance and
Kolby McWilliams recorded the first MC RBI of the night.

MC took the lead in the bottom of the second as Alcantara sent a ball over the left center wall to gain the upperhand, 3-2. It marks the second home run of the season for the Santo Dimingo, Dominican Republic, product and the 41st for the Choctaw, which lands the team in the top 10 on the single-season list.

The Orange and Black responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third. The two-run frame sparked seven consecutive runs for the Warhawks over four innings and increased the lead to 9-3 through six innings.

The Choctaw did not go away quietly as they chipped at the deficit in the seventh with a three-run inning.
Bryce Capobianco got the scoring started as took home on a passed ball that squirted away from Cole McWhorter. Later
Bridley Thomas doubled to center field for an RBI double that plated Alcantara. Thomas followed as he scored on a
Jordan Rollins' single to center, but that capped the scoring for the Blue and Gold.

The Warhawks added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth to expand its lead back to six runs and secure the series-opening victory.

Andrew Cronan (3-3) logged the win on the bump as he struck out seven in six innings and surrendered three runs on four hits. Grant Hickman (2) notched the save as he fanned five in 2.2 innings of relief and allowed just one hit. Six Warhawks tallied multiple-hit performances on the night as the team recorded 15 hits.
