Men's Tennis Moves Up to #19 In Latest ITA Rankings

CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College men's tennis reaped the fruits of knocking off #5 Ouachita Baptist on Sunday, moving up the #19 in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings as announced on Wednesday.

After previously being ranked #34 nationally, MC jumped 15 spots after a huge comeback win versus the #5 team in the country over the weekend. Trailing 3-0 in the match, MC mounted a four point swing, with four straight singles court wins to ultimately take the win over the Tigers.

#5 OBU jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in doubles play with court wins at #1 and #2, winning 6-3 in each. Joe Jarvis and Antoine Nivault picked up the court win at #3 6-4.

In the match, the Tigers quickly stretched their lead to 3-0 with wins at #4 singles with Matias Parzajuk winning 6-0, 6-4 over Felipe Iser and at #2 singles as Rafael Sabio was defeated in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 2-6.

Yet, the Choctaws stormed back, with the final four singles matches all in third sets, MC picked up wins at #1 from Alvaro Saint Martin (4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4), #3 Joe Jarvis (3-6, 6-3, 6-3), and #5 Antoine Nivault (6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4).

Tied at 3-3 in the match and in the third set, Brady McDaniel picked up the clinching match win with a third set victory over Aaron Osmond 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-4, giving MC the 4-3 overall win.

The win prompted the ITA with recognizing the Choctaws, as MC makes a move into the top 20 nationally this week.

Rafael Sabio checked in at #41 nationally overall in the top 50 rankings by the ITA. Sabio and Felipe Iser also enter Thursday's home matchup with Blue Mountain College ranked #46 overall overall in doubles nationally.

The nationally ranked Choctaws return to action at home on Thursday, March 23, with a 2 p.m. match versus Blue Mountain College at the MC Tennis Complex in Clinton, Miss.
