Choctaw Fall at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- A late surge helps propel Henderson State to an 8-6 win over the Mississippi College baseball team on Tuesday, March 14 at Clyde Berry Field. The setback derails a season sweep possibility for the Blue and Gold (7-16) as it run-ruled the Reddies (14-9) earlier in the season in Clinton.

Bridley Thomas led the charge at the dish as he compiled a multiple hit and RBI performance. The Brandon, Miss., native notched a 2-for-5 night, drove in two and scored once in the contest. MC totaled nine hits in the contest.

HSU struck the first blow in the game, but found itself trailing 6-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Red and White rallied with back-to-back, three-run innings in the sixth and seventh to secure the two-run win.

MC plated its first two runs of the game in the top of the third ad Thomas singled up the middle to score Rhett Birdsong and Luis Alcantara to grab a 2-1 advantage. After it added another run in the top of the fourth, Lane Willis and J.T. Vance each drove in a run in the fifth to grab a 5-1 margin.

Following a Charles Hoof home run in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the deficit to 5-2, Birdsong tripled to right field to push Alcantara across the dish for the second time in the game. However, that capped the scoring for the Blue and Gold.

Hoof drew a bases-loaded walk and Austin Scritchfield followed with a two-RBI single to clip the lead the one run. Kaden Argenbright, who led with four hits, started the scoring in the seventh with a RBI-single through the right side and the Reddies' scoring was capped in the Dillon Thomas crossed the plate on a balk.

Nine hurlers took the bump for the Choctaw in the contest as Ervin Simmons (0-2) received the loss as he allowed three runs on two walks and a hit by pitch.

Mitchell Szczygiel (2-0) picked up the win with a run allowed on two hits and three strikeouts in two frames in relief. Cade Tucker (4) logged a save as he tossed the final frame and allowed one hit and struck out two along with a walk.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, March 17 as it travels to Pensacola, Fla., for the three-game, Gulf South Conference series against the University of West Florida. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
