Women's Hoops Falls at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell 74-49 at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 4. MC moves to 5-18 on the season and 4-16 in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 7-16 and 7-12 in the league.

Brett Gardner and Dezirae King paced the Blue and Gold in the scoring column. Gardner recorded her second straight game in double figures and third in the last four outings with a team-best 15 points. The Batesville, Ark., native has notched double digits in six contests this season.

King has also scored in double figures in the last two affairs and has four on the season as she totaled 11 points to finish second on the team in scoring. Danielle Tennant led the charge on the glass with five rebounds as the squad totaled 27 in the effort.

MC shot 35.3 percent from the field, bolstered by a 40.0 clip from behind the arc, and went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.

The Choctaw opened the game with the first two baskets of the contest, as King and Ivy Karly each knocked down shots in the paint, but found themselves trailing by five points after the first 10 minutes of action. UAH used a 26-16 swing in the second period to take a 41-26 lead in at the intermission.

The Blue and White outscored MC 33-23 in the final 20 minutes to derail any attempt at a season sweep by its visitors from the Magnolia State and the first since the 2016-17 campaign.

Alaina Taylor led a trio of Chargers in double figures as she totaled 25 points while Haelim Adle added eight boards to lead the way on the glass. UAH shot 44.9 percent from the floor, including knocking down 11-of-23 from the 3-point line, and shooting 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.
