Choctaws Cap Off Best Season Since Return to Division II With Loss to UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- Mississippi College fell to Alabama Huntsville in the the opening round of the GSC Tournament on Tuesday night by a final score of 77-60.

While the outcome is not what the Choctaws were looking for, MC still capped off the 2023 season with the best record in the GSC and overall since their return back to Division II.

The Choctaws won 15 games overall and won 11 conference matchups, while booking their first trip to the GSC Tournament since the 1995-96 season.

In Tuesday nights game, Tradavis Thompson opened the game up with a three pointer in the opening seconds to jump start MC to a 3-0 lead. UAH then took a 9-5 advantage until back to back Galen Smith layups tied the game up at 9-9 with just over 15 minutes in the first half.
The next four minutes went the way of UAH, going on a 14-0 run to take a 23-9 lead with 11 minutes left in the half. UAH closed out the half leading the contest by a score of 41-29.
  UAH, the No.1 seed in the GSC Tournament and in front of a raucous home crowd inside Spragins Hall, continued to control their own outcome in the second half, eclipsing a 25-point lead, 75-50, with just over six minutes left in the game. 

UAH went on win by a final of 77-60, moving themselves on to the next round of the GSC Tournament, while the Choctaws closed out their season.

In his final game as a Choctaws, Miles Miller led MC with 11 points, including seven assists. Galen Smith, also in his final game, tallied 10 points and five rebounds, with one blocked shot.

Paul Smith had eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field with three rebounds. MC finished 28-of-56 from the field and 6-of-18 from three point range. They also had 32 points in the paint and 25 points off of the bench. 
While the season comes to a close, the program continues to trend upwards in the second year of the Randy Bolden Era, as MC more than doubled their win total from a year ago, capping off the successful season with a 15-14 overall record.
