Choctaws Fall on Senior Night to Wolves, Await GSC Tourney Status

CLINTON, Miss. - Senior night was upon the MC campus with the Choctaws being able to clinch a berth in the GSC tournament with a win, however, the West Georgia Wolves defeated the Choctaws by a final of 75-64.

The high tempo energy of the evening delivered early as the Choctaws claimed a 14-10 advantage at the 11:44 mark led by Justin Reid with four points.

West Georgia took the lead at the 6:45 mark, capitalizing on second chance opportunities which continued to a 10-point lead at 5:44 remaining before the break.

The Choctaws closed the gap going into the locker room, cutting the Wolves' lead to 33-25 behind seven points and six rebounds from Galen Smith.

The second half began with a quick basket from Smith and layup from Bee McCrary followed by a free throw from Reid to cut the lead to three, but the Wolves were quick to respond with a breakaway layup of their own.

With 15:46 remaining, the lead was back to eight for UWG with Smith continuing to deliver points now with 13 on the evening.

A huge three-pointer from Trey Bates III cut the lead to seven, but the Wolves converted a couple of more buckets pushing the lead to 54-38 with 10:51 remaining.

The Choctaws battled to take the game back, but the hot hand shooting of the Wolves proved too much as MC dropped the contest by an 11-point deficit.

The Choctaws were led by Galen Smith and Tradavis Thompson who scored 18 points respectively. MC now holds a record of 15-13 overall and 11-13 in GSC play and awaits their fate for the conference tournament.
