CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College outscored the Shorter Hawks 39-16 in the second half of Saturday evening's Gulf South Conference contest on their way to dominating 68-43.
MC opened up to an early 23-15 lead with six minutes left in the first half, before Shorter went on a 12-4 to tie the game up at 27-27 with 22 seconds until the half.
Miles Miller drove down the length of the court in the final seconds, knocking down the go ahead layup to take a two-point lead into the break as time expired.
Out of the intermission, MC utilized a string offensive and defensive showing to dominate the final 20 minutes of thee game. After a tight first half, MC dominating the scoreboard in the second half, outscoring Shorter 39-16.
The Choctaws went on to win by a final score of 68-43 behind
Justin Reid's team high 16 points. Reid also finished with a team best nine rebounds.
Galen Smith totaled 14 points in the win with seven rebounds and one blocked shot.
Tradavis Thompson finished with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting.
Miles Miller had seven points and a team high seven assists while
Ankerion Gross had eight points and six rebounds.
Trey Bates III capped off the night with one three-point shot and nine points.
The Choctaws shot 24-of-54 from the field with 38 points in the paint and 18 points off of the bench. MC led for 38:52 of the contest while not surrounding the lead to the Hawks.
Mississippi College won their second game in a row, third in a row at home, improving to 14-12 overall on the season and 10-12 in GSC play.
MC gets a week off to rest as they look to take on Delta State next Saturday, February 18, on the road in Cleveland, Miss. The two teams tip-off beginning at 4 p.m. in GSC play.
