Paulette Named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Mississippi College's Lydia Paulette added her fifth postseason accolade to her ledger as she was named to the 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American list as an honorable mention.

She was tabbed to the association's all-region team on Wednesday, Nov. 29, becoming the program's inaugural first team selection.

The 2023 class includes 42 players—14 on the first, second, and third teams from 28 schools. Missouri-St. Louis, Tampa, and Wayne State (Neb.) each had two players on the first team. Those three schools, as well as Concordia-St. Paul and Regis, placed three players on the first three teams. There were an additional 106 players named honorable mention.

Along with the two recognitions inside the coaches association, Paulette received Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Region – the first of her career - and All-Gulf South Conference honors at the conclusion of the regular season. It marked her second all-conference recognition.

The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native led the conference in total kills, kills per set, total points and points per set. She garnered 407 kills on the year (3.73 kps) and 467 points (4.28 pps) en route to leading the Choctaws to their fourth consecutive GSC Tournament appearance and 14th for the program. She also finished eighth in service aces with 41.

Her kills per set and points per set both stacked up in the top five in the region while her total kill mark sits just outside the top five in the region in sixth.

At the end of her junior season, Paulette is second in program history in total kills and total points while she is seventh in career service aces. She has recorded 935 kills during her three seasons and compiled 1,100 points. Her 92 aces are one shy of the top five in program history.

She turned in a school-record 24 kills this season against fellow South Region member, Florida Southern College, earlier this season. It was one of four top-10 kill performances this season. Her 407 kills rank second in single-season history – three shy of the season record set in 1994 by Liz Mullen.

Paulette also registered 24.5 points in the third match of the season, which tied for the top in match history. She had five efforts that ranked in the top 10 in the school's single-match history. Her 467.0 points are third highest in single-season history and are the most since the mid-1990s.

She is one of two players from the conference to earn AVCA All-Region status this season with two more earning honorable mention.
