CLINTON, Miss. ---- Mississippi College closed out the 2023 year with a 77-52 win over Shorter on Sunday evening, improving to 5-4 in GSC play on the season with the victory.
MC generated a 32 point first half scoring effort, taking an eight point lead, 32-24, lead into the break. The Choctaws continued momentum in the second half, outscoring the Hawks 45-28, on their way to dominating the final score in a 25-point win.
Rashad Bolden paced the home team with 27 points on 8-of-23 shooting from the field, including a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Bolden was 3-for-8 from three-point range and led the Choctaws with a game-high seven assists in 35 minutes on the court.Â
Outside of Bolden,
Dekyre Fuller had 12 points in 21 minutes of action. Fuller concluded his night going 5-for-7 from the field, including five rebounds.Â
Lucas Heflen had seven points while
Daquarius Harris and
Jakemin Abney had six points scored a piece. Harris also tallied eight rebounds on the night and two blocked shots.Â
MC, as a team, shot 47.4 percent from the field on 27-of-57 shooting. The Choctaws added 29 points off of the bench and had 34 points in the paint.Â
With the win, MC improves to 6-7 overall on the season and 5-4 in Gulf South Conference play. They return to action on Tuesday, January 2, for the first action of 2024 at home where they take on Lee beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, Miss.Â
