CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College jumped out to their best start in GSC play with Sunday's 65-61 win over AUM, moving to 4-2 overall in the conference for the first time since 1993-94.
In a closely contested matchup, the Choctaws started off the first half with a seven point lead, taking a 30-23 advantage into halftime.
In the closing moments of the game, Mississippi College experienced a series of lead changes and crucial plays that secured their ultimate victory. With the score at 57-56, Rashad Bolden made a layup with 1:13Â left in regulation to give MC a one-point 58-57 lead.
Back-to-Back free throws by Lucas Heflen put the Choctaws up 60-57, before Heflen gave MC a 6-point lead with a made three-pointer with 21 seconds left. The Choctawss held on to claim the Sunday afternoon GSC win, taking the victory over AUM by a final of 65-61.
Rashad Bolden led the charge for MC, delivering an outstanding all-around performance with 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Cam Brown contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Lucas Heflen and Dekyre Fuller added 10 and 7 points, respectively.
The Choctaws shot 42.31% from the field, 44.44% from three-point range, and 66.67% from the free-throw line in the first half. In the second half, they maintained their composure, shooting 38.46%, 27.27%, and an impressive 85.71%.
With the win, Mississippi College now holds a 5-4 overall record and a 4-2 standing in Gulf South Conference play. The Choctaws return to action on Friday at West Alabama in Livingston, Ala. with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
