CLINTON, Miss. — This week's Mississippi College Athletes of the Week sponsored by Performance Therapy are
Braedon Methvin and
Rhaia Davey.
Davey, a freshman from Baton Rouge, La., was a significant contributor to the Choctaw's 3-0 week putting up big numbers in each contest. She started the week against Auburn University at Montgomery and put up five kills on a .444 attack percentage along with three blocks. She followed that up with another block and two digs in Friday's contest against Lee University before ending the week with five kills, two blocks, and two digs in Saturday's win over Shorter. The Choctaws have been hot as a whole lately, winning five of their last six, and 12 of their last 14 sets including the last nine.
Methvin led the way for the Choctaws at the Charger Invitational, hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville on Saturday. The junior from Thibodaux, La. recorded a personal best time in the 8K of 24:35 and placed 11th overall. Methvin joined Cole Benoit as the only two Choctaws in the top 25. Methvin's high finish helped the Choctaws secure a ninth-place overall finish out of a field of 45 at the meet.
Both cross country and volleyball are back in action this week, with cross country hosting the annual Watson Invitational at Choctaws Trails on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 a.m., while volleyball will be on the road facing Valdosta State Friday at 5 p.m. CT and West Georgia on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. CT.
