VALDOSTA, Ga. —- Mississippi College went on the road Thursday evening and defeated Valdosta State in Gulf South Conference play by a final score of 72-56.
In the first half of play, the Blazers jumped out to a lead midway through, eventually leading the Choctaws by seven points, 31-24, with four minutes left until the half.
However, the MC offense picked up momentum, going on an 11-2 run down the stretch in the final minutes of the half, allowing the Blue and Gold to take a 35-33 lead heading into the break.
The Choctaws continued to play solid offense in the second half, jumping out to a ten point lead, 45-35, just four minutes into the start of the final half.
Trey Bates III gave MC it's largest lead of the night with four minutes left in the game, putting the Choctaws ahead 70-48 over the Blazers.
MC went on to win the contest over Valdosta by a final score of 72-56, improving to 11-8 and 7-8 in conference play.
The Choctaws had three scorers with double-digit points on the night with
Galen Smith finishing with a team high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
Smith also had a team best 10 rebounds on the night, finishing with a double-double on the night, along with four assists.
Miles Miller had 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. He also led MC with seven assists and had five rebounds in the game.
Justin Reid had 10 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting while also bringing down five rebounds.
Blayton Williams and
Trey Bates III each tallied nine points in the Choctaws win over the Blazers.
As a team, MC finished 26-of-50 from the field while also tallying 28 points in the paint.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday where they take on West Florida on the road. Both teams tip-off beginning at 4 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla. on the campus of West Florida.
