BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Wyatt Whipp, a freshman on the Mississippi College Men's Cross Country team, was announced as the GSC Freshman of the week in Men's Cross Country, the conference announced on Wednesday. 

Whipp's selected performance was his career debut at The Opener, hosted by Mississippi College, where he finished 19th overall in the men's 5K with a time of 16:55.5. 

Whipp, originally from Baton Rouge, La., was the top freshman finisher of 99 total competitors in the field. 

Next for Whipp and the Choctaws is the 2022 North Alabama Classic, which will be held on Friday, Sept. 16.
