JACKSON, Tenn. --- For the eighth time this season the Mississippi College volleyball team posted a straight-sets victory as it stepped out of conference play to top Lane College on Friday, Sept. 30. MC improved to 14-1 on the season with the win.

The last straight sets win came on Sept. 9 in the program's first-ever victory over Southern Arkansas University.

Kendall Platt stood as the only Choctaw in double figures in the contest as she posted 12.
Julia Sumrall and
Caroline Chastang tied for second on the team with seven kills each.
Lexie Laurendine totaled 18 assists to lead the squad while
Ali Wiggins supplied 13 dimes as well.

MC hit .305 as a team, which is the fifth time this season that squad totaled an attack clip of .300-plus.

Sumrall and
Sloane FitzHenry lead the charge at the net with a team-leading three blocks each while Platt collected 10 digs.

Lane hit .112 as a team in the match. It's the 11th time on the campaign the MC defense held its opponent under .200 hitting.

In the opener, MC rallied to tie the contest at 7-all on kill from Platt. The put away sparked a 5-0 run to give the team an 11-7 advantage. Following a pair of points from the Dragons, the Navy and Gold responded with a 4-0 run to grab the lead for good as it took the set 25-17.

After taking the second set 25-18, the Choctaw found themselves in another pesky duel with the homestanding Dragons. MC trailed, but went on a 9-3 run to grab a 20-15 advantage. The Red and Blue cut the deficit to 23-20, but a rejection from Chastang and Sumrall followed by a FitzHenry kill slammed the door, 25-21.

The win gives the Choctaw their second win in the series in as many meetings – both coming on the Dragons' home floor – both sweeps.

Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 1 as it travels up North Highland Avenue in Jackson to take on Union University. It's the second meeting this season with the Bulldogs as the Navy and Gold swept the Dogs on their home floor in August. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
