CLEVELAND, Miss. --- After trailing 2-0 through the first six innings of Friday's game one contest versus Delta State, a five-run seventh inning by the Lady Choctaws lifted MC to the 5-2 comeback win over the Lady Statesmen.
With bases loaded, back-to-back walks for MC allowed the Navy and Gold to tie the contest up at 2-2 and only one out. With bases still loaded,
Bailee Avants stepped up to the challenge with a two out double that scored the go ahead runs for MC, as the Lady Choctaws took the 4-2 lead.
MC added one more run in the inning, taking the 5-2 advantage as they headed to the bottom half of the seventh.
Avery Sanders (5-9) shut the Lady Statesmen down in the final frame, picking up the win after finishing out the final 3.0 innings, as MC went on to complete the comeback win in game one by a final of 5-2.
Mississippi College finished with seven total hits as a team, while being led by
Alexis Laughlin with two hits on the evening. Five other Lady Choctaw batters produced a hit, while Avants led MC with two runs batted in.
Jenna Ergle tallied one double one hit, while
Kamryn Eaton and
Jordan LaFosse each had one run batted in for MC in the seventh inning.
MC improves to 15-17 overall on the season and 7-13 in Gulf South Conference play after Friday evenings 5-2 win. Both teams return to action tomorrow afternoon for doubleheader action beginning at 12 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.
