HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws softball program was defeated by the Alabama Huntsville Lady Charger on Sunday afternoon, as UAH won by a final of 10-5 in game three of this weekends three game conference series.
UAH struck first in the bottom half of the first inning, pushing three runs across the board to take a quick 3-0 lead over the Lady Choctaws.
MC answered two innings later in the top half of the third inning, scoring three runs on five total hits in the inning with the help of a two RBI double to centerfield by
Alexis Laughlin that scored
Bailee Avants and
Kamryn Eaton, as well as a single by
Jenna Ergle that allowed Laughlin to cross over as MC tied the game up at 3-3.
In the fourth inning, MC took the lead with an
Alexis Laughlin single that once again allowed Avants and Eaton to score, as the Lady Choctaws went ahead 5-3.
UAH would tie the contest up before taking the lead by one-run, 6-5, in the bottom half of the fourth inning on a single to centerfield.
The Lady Chargers added four more runs in the sixth inning on four hits, as UAH would extend their lead and ultimately hold MC the remainder of the way, winning by a final score of 10-6.
Mississippi College totaled eight hits as a club, including a team best three hits by
Alexis Laughlin. Laughlin led MC with four runs batted in as well as one run scored.
Getting the nod in right field on Sunday afternoon,
Bailee Avants went 2-for-2 at the plate while finishing tied for a team high two runs scored, along with
Kamryn Eaton.
MC falls to 14-17 overall on the season and 7-13 in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Choctaws return to action next Friday for a road matchup at Delta State.
The two teams are set for first pitch on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. with doubleheader action scheduled for Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.
