CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team fell in its final midweek contest of the 2022 season as it dropped a 3-1 decision to the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Tuesday, April 26.

Payton Russell (1-3) tossed a gem in his final start in a Choctaws uniform. He struck out six and allowed just one earned run through seven frames as he scattered five hits in the setback. The six punch-outs matched a season-high for the Nacogdoches, Texas, native. He fanned six in a 1-0 shutout at nationally-ranked Henderson State University.

The MC bats were limited in the outcome.
Markarius Lee led the squad at the dish with two hits.
Lane Willis and
Jackson Breedlove each added a double to collect the Navy and Gold's total. Willis drove in the only Choctaw run as his double drove in Breedlove to tie the contest at 1-all in the fifth.

The Boll Weevils regained the lead in the top of the sixth as Jordan Johnson singled to left field. Cade Thompson added an insurance run in the eighth as he grounded into a double play that pushed Grant Jeffers across the plate.

Charles Peacock (4-2) picked up the win on the mound as he tossed five frames and struck out eight along with three walks and two hits. Jack Barna (1) logged his first save of the season as he threw the final four innings and recorded four strikeouts with two hits allowed.

Chase Cripps led the Green and White at the dish with three of the team's six hits on the day.

Cooper Gadman tossed the final two frames for the Choctaws as he allowed just one baserunner in the six batters faced.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, April 29 as it hosts Union (Tenn.) University in the final, three-game, Gulf South Conference series of the season. Friday's first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
