Baseball Falls in Twinbill at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped the doubleheader to the University of West Georgia on Saturday, April 23. The Wolves claimed a 16-6 victory in the first game of the day and limited the Choctaws to just five base runners in the night cap to claim a 9-0 win.
 
In the opening game of the day, MC posted six runs in the top of the fourth and held a 6-3 lead through four complete frames. Markarius Lee opened the scoring with an RBI-single and later scored on a Tristan Tigrett RBI-double to grab a 3-0 advantage. After Lane Willis drove in a drove in a pair with an RBI-double of his own, Lance Wade concluded the scoring in the inning with as he drove in Willis with an RBI-single.
 
Willis and Tigrett finished the game with multiple hit and RBI performances. The duo combined for four hits and each drove in a pair. MC collected eight hits in the effort.
 
However, the lead in the game was short lived as the Wolves cut the deficit in half in the home half of the fourth and took a 7-6 lead as it plated four runs in the fifth inning. The Red and Blue wouldn't stop there as it totaled nine runs over the next two frames, including a five-run, sixth inning.
 
Joseph Cuomo (2-8) took the loss on the mound. He struck out seven in five innings of work in the start, but allowed seven runs – six earned – on eight hits along with three walks. Jackson Smith and Bryce Lewis combined for the final 1.2 frames of work and combined for nine runs – six earned – on six hits.
 
The Wolves picked up all the run support it needed in the second game of the day in the first inning as Brody Wortham launched a solo home run in the frame. The Red and Blue totaled eight hits in the game, including five going for extra bases.
 
Lee, CJ Berry and Cody Crifasi logged the only hits of the game for MC. Berry singled in the fifth inning while Lee and Crifasi each recorded singles with two outs in the top of the seventh. Berry and Derrek Lathon, Jr., each reached on walks as well.
 
Jackson Bridges (3-5) received the loss on the bump. He allowed four runs – three earned – on four hits as he struck out three and walked one.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, April 26 for the first of four games at Frierson Field, Dickins-Scoper Stadium as it hosts Arkansas-Monticello in the final midweek contest of the season. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
