IRONDALE, Ala. -- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws took on Shorter Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play, winning game one 6-3 and game two by a final of 6-0.
MC struck first in the first inning, scoring two runs on three hits, including an RBI double by
McCall Lee and an RBI single by
Jordan LaFosse that put MC up 2-0.
Shorter got one back in the fourth inning, yet the Lady Choctaws answered with a two run line drive home run over the right field wall by
AnneMarie Peavy as MC extended their lead to 4-1 after four innings.
In the fifth inning, a
Brooke Fagan double to center field and a
McCall Lee sacrifice fly to right field put MC up 6-1 heading into the final innings of the contest.
Avery Sanders and
Avery Barnett shut down Shorter in the final two innings in the circle, allowing just two runs to the Lady Hawks as MC went on to win game one by a final of 6-3.
MC had six hits as a team, with six different Lady Choctaws recording a hit in the game. MC had three doubles (
Brooke Fagan,
McCall Lee,
Kamryn Eaton) and were led by
AnneMarie Peavy and
McCall Lee with two runs batted in a piece.
GAME TWO
In game two, MC and Shorter remained scoreless through the first two innings of play before a
McCall Lee single to centerfield put the Lady Choctaws on the board first, as MC took to 1-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, MC added four more runs on a
Jordan LaFosse single to left field that score
Kamryn Eaton, as was as an
Alexis Laughlin single off the centerfield wall that scored LaFosse and
Bailee Avants, and a
Brooke Fagan sac fly to right field that scored
Rayne Minor from third, giving MC the 5-0 lead.
In the top half of the seventh,
Kamryn Eaton hit an RBI double off of the left field wall that score
McCall Lee from first base, as MC extended their lead to 6-0. MC went on to win the contest by a final of 6-0 in game two, to take the midweek series sweep.
Mississippi College improved to 22-17 overall on the season with Wednesday's wins over Shorter as they return to the field on Saturday at West Georgia for a three game series in Carrollton, Ga. with game one set for 12 p.m.
