RAYMOND, Miss. -- Trailing 5-4 in the final inning for the Lady Choctaws, it was a
Jordan LaFosse's single to center field that scored
Jaycee Dill and
Brooke Fagan to give Mississippi College to 6-5 walk off winner in game one of this weekend's Gulf South Conference series.
Montevallo took an early 2-0 lead through the first three innings on Thursday evening, before MC struck with four runs, including a three-run home run by
Kamryn Eaton, as the Lady Choctaws took the 4-2 lead.
UM scored one run in the fourth inning on a solo home run, before taking the lead, 5-4, with two runs in the top half of the seventh inning.
That's when the Lady Choctaws rallied in the bottom half of the seventh inning, as LaFosse's two RBI single lifted MC to the series opening win over Montevallo.
Mississippi College collected seven hits on the evening as a team and were led by the hero, LaFosse, with three hits in three at bats. The shortstop also had two runs batted in, all of which came on the game winning hit.
Kamryn Eaton had one hit, the three run home run in the third inning, which gave MC the 4-2 lead at the time.
Alexis Laughlin finished with two hits in four at bats on the evening with one run scored in the win.
Mississippi College improved to 18-17 overall on the season and 10-12 in conference play with the win. MC currently sits in eight place in the GSC Conference Standings, with a two game lead over ninth place Delta State.
MC and Montevallo return to action tomorrow afternoon once again in Raymond, Miss. on the campus of Hinds Community College at Rene Wallace Field. Game one of tomorrow's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
