RAYMOND, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws softball team completed the weekend sweep over Montevallo on Friday afternoon, winning game two by a final score of 8-4 before taking home game three, 6-5, in Raymond, Miss on the campus of Hinds Community College.
The Lady Choctaws scored one run in the first inning, two in the third, two again in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more runs in the sixth inning on an
AnneMarie Peavy triple to right field.
Avery Barnett shutdown the Lady Falcons in the final frame of game one, winning by a final score of 8-4 over UM.
In game three, Montevallo took an early 3-0 lead in the contest, scoring three runs in the first inning.
The Lady Choctaws answered in the bottom half of the second inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-3 lead over the Lady Falcons.
UM added two more runs to take a 5-4 lead yet MC once again continued to answer with runs of their own, scoring two more runs to regain a 6-5 lead.
Montevallo picked up two hits in the seventh inning, but MC held the Lady Falcons scoreless in the final inning, as MC picked up the 6-5 win in game three to claim the series sweep.
Mississippi College has swept the last two weekend series, as they improve to 20-17 overall and 12-12 in conference play.
MC returns to action next Wednesday where they take on Shorter at a neutral site in Birmingham, Ala. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the Birmingham Thunderbolts Softball Complex.
