Choctaws Take GSC Home Opening Series With 3-0 Win Over CBU

CLINTON, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws wrapped up their Gulf South Conference home opener on Sunday winning by a final score of 3-0 over Christian Brothers, claiming the series 2-1. 

In the second inning, Jordan Lafosse broke a scoreless tie with a two-run home run to left field, scoring Kamryn Eaton as well, to take a 2-0 lead.

The next inning, Jenna Ergle powered one off the right field wall, picking up a double while scoring Annemarie Peavy on the play, as MC extended their lead to 3-0. 

Avery Barnett went on to shut down the Lady Bucs the rest of the way, pitching a complete game, going 7.0 innings in the circle while surrendering just two hits, and striking out two batters. Barnett improved to 6-2 with the win on Sunday. 

The Choctaws pounded out seven hits as a team, with McCall Lee and Alexis Laughlin leading the charge with two hits a piece. 

Jordan Lafosse led MC with two runs batted in on the two-run home run in the second inning in Sunday's win. Jenna Ergle and and Lee each tallied one double on the day.

The Choctaws improved to 11-6 overall on the season and 4-2 in Gulf South Conference play after winning their second GSC series in a row. 

MC returns to action on Tuesday afternoon at home versus Ouachita Baptist with a double-header matchup beginning at 1 p.m. in Clinton, Miss.
