MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Mississippi College fell in a pair of contests Sunday afternoon to the No. 17 ranked Auburn Montgomery Warhawks by finals of 4-3 and 2-0 in GSC play.
In game one,
Brooke Fagan and
Jenna Ergle helped put MC up on the board first, with Fagan doubling to begin the contest before Ergle answered with a two-run home run to put the Choctaws up 2-0.
No. 17 AUM homered in the second inning, cutting the lead to 2-1 yet in the seventh inning,
Mallory Little added a home run herself, putting a ball over the left field wall for a solo shot to put the Choctaws back ahead two-runs, 3-1.
Trailing 3-1, No. 17 AUM utilized back to back home runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning, with a Newsome two-run home run to tie the contest up at 3-3, before AUM's Morgan knocked a solo shot over center field, walking it off for the Warhawks in game one by a final of 4-3.
The Choctaws had five hits in game one, with Fagan, Ergle, Little,
Alexis Laughlin, and
Jordan LaFosse each collecting one hit each. Ergle led MC with two runs batted in on the two-run home run in the first inning.
Avery Barnett (6-3) took the loss, going 6.2 innings in the circle, while giving up eight hits and four runs to the Warhawks. Barnett also struck out three batters in the contest. All runs in game one for both teams came off of home runs, as both the Choctaws abd Warhawks combined for five home runs a piece.
In game two, Auburn Montgomery picked up two runs in the second inning on a pair of singles as AUM took the lead 2-0. The Choctaws put runnners on but the Warhawks ultimately shutout MC the rest of the way, winning game two of Sunday's doubleheader by a final score of 2-0 to claim the series.
MC tallied five hits in the contest and we led by
McCall Lee with two hits.
Mallory Little, Annemarie Peavy, and
Jenna Ergle each collected a hit in the loss.
Avery Sanders (6-3) went 6.0 innings int he circle, giving up six hits to the Warhawks and two runs scored, each in the second inning.
The Choctaws fall to 11-8 overall on the season and 4-4 in GSC play. MC and AUM meet again tomorrow for game three, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
