MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws softball program came up short in Monday's Gulf South Conference matchup at No. 17 Auburn Montgomery, falling by a final score of 4-2 to the Warhawks.
After two scoreless innings in the first and second inning on the contest, AUM struck first in the bottom half of the third inning, scoring on a single up the middle that put the Warhawks on the board at 1-0. Later in the inning, with the help of another RBI single, AUM took a two-run lead, 2-0, heading into the top half of the fourth.
The Choctaws answered in the fourth, with Mallory Lilttle reaching on a fielder's choice to third base, scoring
Jenna Ergle, as MC cut the two-run lead down to one run, 2-1.
McCall Lee tied the contest up at 2-2 in the fifth inning, singling up the middle, scoring
AnneMarie Peavy to knot up the game up 2-2.
The Warhawks continued to utilize the long ball to their advantage on the weekend, this time homering to right field to put AUM on top 4-2 in the sixth inning.
AUM went on to hold MC in the final frame, as the No. 17 ranked team in the country went on to win by a final of 4-2, completing the sweep on the Choctaws.
Mississippi College totaled nine hits on the afternoon, including multiple hit outings by
Jenna Ergle,
Jordan LaFosse, and
Rayne Minor, who had two hits each.
Brooke Fagan,
McCall Lee, and
AnneMarie Peavy all had one hit a piece in Monday's loss to AUM.
Mallory Little and Lee both led MC with one run batted in on the day.
MC drops to 11-9 overall on the season and 4-5 in Gulf South Conference play. Mississippi College returns to the field on Thursday with a non-conference midweek matchup versus West Florida at home. The two teams will face off in a doubleheader with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
