CLINTON, Miss. -- The Mississippi College Choctaws split Saturday afternoons double-header with Christian Brothers, winning game one by a final score of 10-2 before slipping in game two, 5-3.
In the first inning of game one,
Kamryn Eaton got things started with a three run home run to left centerfield, putting MC up 3-0 early.Â
Brooke Fagan doubled to left center in the, second inning, scoring
Alexis Laughlin, before
Jenna Ergle brought home Fagan on an RBI single to rightfield, put MC up 5-0.
In the third inning, Fagan and Annemarie Peavy each singled, with Fagan's hit drawing two runs scored and Peavy scoring
Rayne Minor, as MC jumped out to am 8-2 lead.Â
Two runs in the sixth inning promted MC to winning game one by a final score of 10-2, to claim game one of the three game series.
In game two, CBU started off hot with the bats, scoring three runs in the first three innings of the contest. MC utilized the fourth inning to tie the game back up at 3-3 after a CBU error allowed three runs to cross the plate for MC.Â
Two home runs in the sixth and seventh inning for CBU allowed the Lady Bucs to regain the lead 5-3. In the seventh inning, the Choctaws loaded the bases with two outs, yet the the Lady Bucs forced a fly out to left field, as CBU went on to win game two by a final of 5-3.
In game one, MC had 11 hits as a team with
Brooke Fagan leading the way with three hits and three runs batted in.
Kamryn Eaton had two hits, including the three-run home run in the first inning.Â
Avery Barnett picked up the win, going the complete game with two runs, five hits, given up and six strikeouts.Â
In game two, MC collected nine hits as a team, with
Rayne Minor and
Brooke Fagan finishing with two hits a piece. Fagan, Minor, and
Alexis Laughlin each had one run scored in the game.Â
Mississippi College (10-6, 3-2 GSC) goes head to head tomorrow afternoon with Christian Brother for the series finale. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex in Clinton, Miss.Â
