CLINTON, Miss.---The Mississippi College baseball team fell to Christian Brothers 3-1 in a GSC contest on Friday evening, Feb. 25th. MC falls to 3-9 (1-3 Gulf South Conference), while Christian Brothers improved to 3-5 (1-0 GSC).
Joseph Cuomo (1-3) led the way on the mound as he pitched the full nine innings for the complete game in his strongest outing of the season. All three of the runs scored by CBU against Cuomo were unearned. Cuomo also struck out eight batters and at one point retired nine straight Buccaneers. Cuomo allowed five hits and walked a batter.
Travis Cole (1-0) was the CBU pitcher going back and forth with Cuomo all evening. Cole also pitched a complete game as he allowed 1 earned run, 5 hits, and struck-out 10 batters while picking up the win.
Christian Brothers scored first in the top of the third to take the lead.
Markarius Lee would eventually even things up in the bottom of the sixth as he sent a solo home run over the left field wall (his first home run of the season) to make it a 1-1 game.
That score would remain as Cuomo and Cole continued to go back-and-forth until the Buccaneers scored twice in the top of the ninth on two unearned runs to take a 3-1 lead. MC would be unable to respond in the bottom of the inning as the Choctaws dropped the GSC series opener.
The two squads will be back in action on Saturday, Feb 26th with first pitch set for 1:00 pm.
