Choctaws Upend Badgers in Midweek Sweep

CLINTON, Miss. – The Mississippi College Choctaws opened up home play Wednesday afternoon, upending Spring Hill College by final scores of 8-3 in game one and 9-2 in game two.

In the first inning of game one, Jenna Ergle doubled in the gap, pushing two early runs across the board, before a later scoring on a wild pitch to put MC up 3-0 after one.

MC added two more runs in the second inning with the help of a McCall Lee single and a fielding error by the Badgers, as MC went ahead 5-0 after the first two innings.

After SHC cut the lead to 5-2, Annemarie Peavy sent a solo shot over the left centerfield wall, as the Choctaws grabbed a five-run lead. In the same inning, McCall Lee hit a two-run home run, scoring Ergle, as MC stretch out to an 8-2 advantage.

MC went on to win game one by a final of 8-3. In game two, both teams remained scoreless at 0-0 until both teams put up runs in the third inning. Tied at 1-1 in the third inning, Jordan Lafosse hit a triple that would score both Kamryn Eaton and Annemarie Peavy to put MC up 3-1.

Up 3-2 in the 4th, an Annemarie Peavy single scored Rayne Minor and Alexis Laughlin, giving the Choctaws a 5-2 lead.

In the fifth inning, Brooke Fagan singled to left field, scoring Laughlin, as MC extended the lead to four–runs, 6-2. MC added three more run in the fifth with the help of a Peavy double that brought in two runs, as well as a McCall Lee single, as the Choctaws pushed the score 9-2.  

Avery Barnett went on to pick up the win in game two, holding Spring Hill in the final two innings, as MC won by a final of 9-2.

Barnett went the complete game, going 7.0 innings, allowing nine hits, two runs, and striking out three batters.

MC collected nine hits as a team in the 9-2 win with Peavy leading the way with two hits and four runs batted in.  

Rayne Minor had a multiple hit outing, finishing with two hits.  She also scored two runs in the win. Full box score for game two HERE.

In game one, MC had five hits with McCall Lee leading the way with two hits, including the home run in the win. She also had a team best three runs batted in.  Full box score for game one HERE.

Rayne Minor, Jenna Ergle, and Annemarie Peavy each had hits in game one. Avery Sanders picked up the win, going 7.0 innings, while giving up four hits, three runs, and striking out a stellar 12 batters on the night. 

MC improved to 9-5 overall on the season with the Wednesday sweep of Spring Hill as they will look to keep the momentum going this weekend with a three-game home GSC series against Christian Brothers. MC and CBU go head to head beginning on Saturday with a double-header scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the  MC Softball Complex.
