Choctaws Salvage Series with Series Finale Victory

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College baseball team used a pair of four-run innings in the series finale split its doubleheader at the University of West Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Choctaws (3-8, 1-2 Gulf South Conference) took the nightcap 8-4 after falling 13-12 in 10 innings to open the day.

The win in the finale snapped a five-game skid to the Tigers in the series.

After holding a 4-2 lead through four innings, the Red and White knotted the contest at 4-all in the bottom of the fifth. However, the Navy and Gold responded in the top of the seventh with four RBI hits, including RBI singles from Jackson Breedlove, Markarius Lee, and John Rice as well as an RBI double from Ken Scott.

Bryce Lewis (1-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen. He held the Red and White at bay with 1.2 innings of hitless and scoreless work.

MC broke the deadlock with on Breedlove RBI single into right field that scored Derrek Lathon, Jr., but it was all the Choctaws could muster. After Brooks Warren struck out the first two batters, the Red and White tied the contest for the second time as Jake Nemith scored on a Choctaw fielding error. Following a stolen base and back-to-back walks, Garland Curley crossed the dish on a wild pitch to give UWA the come-from-behind victory and the series.
