Women's Hoops Falls at #10 Union

JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team fell, 78-60, at 10th-ranked Union University on Saturday, Feb. 12. MC moves to 12-11 on the campaign and 7-9 in the Gulf South Conference. The nationally-ranked Lady Bulldogs improved to 19-2 and remained unbeaten in league play at 14-0.
 
Kayla Bradley and Kyiah Julian paced the scoring effort for the Choctaws as Bradley led the way with 12 points. Julian tabbed in 11 points on the day. Alana Canady led the effort on the glass for the Navy and Gold with seven rebounds.
 
MC shot 40.6 percent from the floor, including a 33.3 clip from behind the 3-point arc, and was limited in attempts at the free-throw line with just four shots, but connected on three of them for 75.0 percent. The Choctaws grabbed a total of 35 rebounds.
 
Mississippi College fell in a hole early as the Lady 'Dogs claimed a 25-14 advantage at the first 10 minutes of play and never relinquished the double-digit advantage the rest of the way. After Union held a 14-point lead at the intermission, it grabbed its largest lead, 72-48, with 6:35 remaining in the game as Bailey Augustine converted a layup from Shanique Lucas.
 
Jaelencia Williams guided the Red and White's efforts as she collected a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. UU shot 50.0 percent from the field, including an impressive 40.0 percent from the arc, and converted 81.8 percent of its shots from the charity stripe. It pulled down 29 rebounds.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 17 as it hosts the University of Montevallo. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
