BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Mississippi College's Brett Gardner earned Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Dec. 19.
 
This marks the second award for the Batesville, Ark., native as she laid claim to the accolade on Nov. 29. She is the first two-time recipient of the award since the program has returned to Division II and the conference and the sixth overall. She joins former Choctaw Ally Alford (12.14.21, 1.11.22); Rivers Futral (2.2.21),  Lauran Sheriff (12.12.17) and Ava Knoedl (12.13.22).
 
Gardner led the Choctaw in scoring this week as she averaged 14.5 points during the two-game span, including a season-high 18 points against No. 23 Lee University on Sunday, Dec. 18. She added 11 points in the opening game of the week at Shorter University to stand as only one of three players in double figures. She finished the week shooting over 30.0 percent from behind the arc and was perfect from the charity stripe.
 
She currently ranks second on the team in scoring this season, leads the team in 3-point shooting percentage and is fourth from the free-throw line.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Monday, Jan. 2 as it plays host to in-state and conference foe, Delta State University. Tip is at 5:30 p.m.
